What is the difference between Cost Price and Wholesale Price?

A friend of mine is planning to start his Business on the Internet and he's got a list of suppliers who are selling their goods at wholesale price.. From my understanding, websites like Ebay has sellers who are selling goods at wholesale price as well.. I'm quite unsure what exactly is the difference between Cost Price and Wholesale Price.. I do understand what Cost Price is.. Anyone here to help me out please? Thank you in advance for your help and your time reading this..

ftpconfig.dat file not found ??

When entering data into the Account settings window I get the following error when trying to save settings:

The program then crashes out.

When relaunching UPI all the fields in the account settings window are blank and the ftpconfig.dat is also empty.

Also once a crash has occurred when clicking on Schedule this error appears:

UPI is installed to the root directory: C:\UPI
Running Windows Home Premium 64 bit.
Running program both normal and compatibility modes causes the same events.

All help solving this greatly appreciated

I saw someplace that the product importer works with Presta shopping cart. However, it seems that the word "presta" occurs nowhere in your site. Can you please confirm if it does work with Presta? Thank you.

Release notes for UPI v1.6

This latest version adds better support for Pixmania-pro feeds when using
the Italian feed and French feed set. Also has some minor fixes.
Recommended for all users to download.

Instructions:
Download the archive and extract into your installation folder.

We recommend to download this update to add more universal feed support.

Adds conversion list support for 1000 rows in globals.XML

#Number of max characters for a field description set to 1000
NumberOfCharactersPerLine = 1000
This allows a bigger field description e.g. for products.

#minor fixes: sometimes descriptions were cut off when encountering " \ " characters. This issue has been fixed.

#UTF8 Symbols support for XML fixing Pixmania Italian and French:
The 1.6 release includes HTML like and UTF8 character fixes to add a broad XML support.
The symbols in UTF8 or HTML will be converted to the according XML Characters. (more details in download)
This improves the Italian Pixmania compatibility as well for all other Latin, French and German Language feeds.

is there anywhere or anyone that can get me started with magserver - I am 100% new to the magento environment and have no clue regarding development, however we have a new e-commerce site that I need to understand the workings of, hence the purchase of this product.

Multiple Installs of Magento

Hello,

I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere. Most Magento addons are a one-time use only. Is this the same or can I use it for all of my Magento site conversions? I am currently doing 3-6 such conversions a month and this would be most helpful (and cost effective).

Tutorial 1: Analyse your CSV from a wholeseller
Step 1 This will take 1-3 min
1- Open your CSV with a text editor and find it's separator
Good Text editors are:
-notepad (standard windows version)
-notepad ++ Download notepadd ++

Examples of separated documents:

Step 2: View our CSV or TXT in Excel This will take 2-3 min
Start Microsoft Excel for better viewing.
1-Start with a blank document (new document)
2-Select the tab data, from text.
2.1 A popup window will appear (prn,txt, csv)
2.2 Select your CSV or TXT (see examples)

2.3 After selecting your file a new wizard will appear for selecting how you would read your data.

2.4 Select delimited

Click next and a screen will pop-up to select your delimiter (or separator symbol)
Remember your separator from step 1? Fill it in here now.
If your feed has got a TAB separator select tab. If your feed has got a symbol fill in your symbol.

Click Next, Finish and Click OK.

You can now view your Data better.

Here comes the tricky part where you have to 'think':
Decide which data you would like to import into Magento
In above screen shot you can see that cell
D has got unique SKU's.
B are categories and C subcategories.

In full context think what you want to import into Magento and what standard data is required.

Example of most common Standard Data you want to import into Magento
-SKU's
-Categories
-Short descriptions
-Long descriptions
-Image url's
-Cost prices
-Markup prices
-Keywords

Step3: This will take 5 min
Decide if you can find above data in your excel file. If not...Can you make it yourself or use data from a specific column also on another?
e.g. if you only have got a short description you can use it also for the long description and vice versa.

After you have the correct viewing scheme you can start creating a bulk profile. We only need to map the parts that we can use.

Tutorial 2: How to setup the conversion
Anyone who can count can use the universal product importer.
For SKU we simply put the number in our globals.xml config.
In this case we want the data from row 4 which is SKU data and map it in a bulk process. Simply open globals.xlm and put the number 4 after SKU.
String,SKU,4,no_convert,no_calculate (See image below)

Importing categories from CSV

Please check this mod for importing categories from CSV, this mod can be used in conjunction with the Univeral Product Importer.

Descriptions:
This mods allows you to import new categories by their name while associating new/existing products with categories.

How to update only Price and Cost

I have a file with my price and cost and the sku, I want to use this to update only these two fields. The file has more skus than I have in the shop.

Is this possible?
I worry that it will erase my other info and descriptions etc with a standard value that is added in the xml file.

Improved conversion management

v1.41
-Globals.xml location has changed. Now you can make folders for your conversions and put a globals.xml in there.
NO NEED To copy the globals.xml any more to the root folder. This is a huge improvement on datamanagement.
-The testing version support now an option to choose how many lines you would like to convert.
-Fill in the white textarea a number for the max number of lines conversion.
-Minor improvements on HTML to XML filtering.
-Conversion row gave error when conversion row was more than 100 unique values to convert, now it has been extended
to 200 unique conversion rows. This should fix the error did you close your file message.

How to unzip:
Please use your password which came with your payment confirmation.

This version is a special build of our software to only process a few products
Use version 1.3a to only process 5 lines of any csv or txt feed.
This is a great version to only test a small part of a bulk process.

Install instructions, just place the .exe in the root directory of your installation folder.

FAQ Adding Tax

How do I add a tax?
1-Open globals.xml which came with your installation (1-2 min)
on line 54 (use notepad ++) you see a TAX class id

This will create your header part for tax when you run the universal product importer. You will need your TAX name.

How to know your Tax name (2 min)
Goto your admin and goto Manage Tax rules:

Here you can setup your Tax names.
In this case we will go to a tax name called paypal tax.

Here is the name called: Paypal Tax

Remember your own name you are going to use on products.
You can setup your own name but you will have to remember this name because you will assign this name while using the bulkprocessor.

Finally assigning the name (2 min)
Now open globals.xml again and find line 109:

Just put your name here in the format of
String,Paypal Tax,0,no_convert,no_calculate
And the next time you run the importer it will have added your Tax name on all products.

Reading All your category ids to map them

If you want to rewrite categories from feeds to category id's here are the things to do in your globals.xml file

1.Change line ~106 String,Category_ids,2,no_convert,no_calculate
to
String,Category_ids,2,convert,no_calculate

Go to section and change according the example below.
Add your own category names in via admin first, then use below table to rewrite the categories from your csv feed to the corresponding
category id's present in your shop. This will rewrite the category_ids column to contain the category numbers from your shop instead
of using the category names defined in your csv.

All paths to a directory have to be without containing a space e.g.

Introduction
When you want to start importing products into Magento you will notice that the standard import function is quite limited to process different data.
Below you can find the most common terminology when importing products into Magento. We will start explaining the most import basics first in this thread.

1 What is Dataflow? (Magento Basics)
Dataflow is the import and data engine of Magento. It allows the users to import a CSV file or XMl data file. You can find Dataflow when you login into your control panel. (permissions Administrator)

How to acces dataflow or the import products section of Magento:
-Login to your adminaccount
-goto system>Import/export> hit profiles

1.1 Using dataflow to import or export products
When you are in the panel you can see multiple import and export profiles.
This is the normal way to import and export data.
Number 4 and 1 are the most common used profiles.

1.2 Import profiles: What do you have to know?
-Import all products (profile 3) means when importing, import from all products regardless of the unique SKU.
-Import all products Stock (profile 4) but when encountering an unique SKU update the stock level. This will result in ONLY updating the products, stocklevel or additional data.

1.3 Using dataflow to export products from batch
1-Export your products using export all products. Using profile (1)
2-Click profile 1

After you have clicked profile (1) you will notice above CSV exporting options. You might want to change the export a unique name (e.g. myproducts.csv) in order to remember it later on more easier.

Please notice:
At default the standard export name will be export_all_products.csv
Your CSV will be exported to var/export on your local server. (your webhost)

Remember these settings and hit save and continue editing settings.
1-Click Run profile.
2-Magento now will start exporting your CSV to your Local webhost.

1.4 Dowloading your CSV from Dataflow
Follow 1.3 Launch your favourite FTP client. Your webhost will provide you with your FTP credentials in most cases.
Navigate to your public html folder of your domain and goto your var/export. Here you will find your exported CSV or XML files.

You can drag the .csv file to your desktop or download to a local folder using your favourite FTP client.

CSV, TXT and Excel formats explained
You all may have heared of CSV. It's a formatting of textdata in a specific order with a few simple rules
Data unformated and seperated with a separator symbol. e.g. comma, TAB, ~ l ; or any other character.

CSV format basic example:
text,text,text,text,text

Above example can be a CSV file. However, the above text can be replaced with any text like:

Dell,computer,200.95,240.95,A really good computer

There is one thing left to define a good CSV data file. Most CSVs will contain a header..
A header you might as yourself? What is that?
Well...A header defines the type of data your CSV contains and is always the top row of your CSV, if provided. Please view below example:

This update requires a password, only registered users can update. (The password will be send through email after purchase)

Applying the update:
Download below archive and unzip with Winrar or Winzip.
1-Make a backup of your FTPconfig.dat
2-Extract it's content into your installation folder.
3-Copy the new FTPconfig.dat into your installation folder.

When you start this new update you will notice the new Intuitive account interface for all your FTP credentials. (similar to an FTP client like Filezille, CuteFTP)
